Extreme Cold Guidelines

As we enter to the coldest part of our school year, we are often asked if the children will be going outside for recess.  The Simcoe Muskoka Catholic District School Board (SMCDSB) follows the Simcoe Muskoka District Health Unit's (SMDHU) direction to,

"Consider shortening outdoor play for children when temperatures are between -15oC or colder (with or without wind chill).

Keep children indoors if the temperature falls below -27oC, with or without wind chill." (Canadian Paediatric Society, 2009)

***Please ensure that your child is dressed for the weather with winter boots, a jacket, snowpants, hat, and gloves.

Should temperatures be approaching those listed above, we will move to reduce the time students are out at lunch.
