Reading Incentive Program

Dear Parents/Guardians/Students:
The purpose of this note is to share with you information about our Home-School Reading Incentive program.
Nightly reading is crucial to a child’s success. To promote reading with all our students, we have created an incentive program at the school that we as a staff hope will further encourage kids to read. It works like this:
Kindergarten to Grade 3
* Read between 5-20 minutes a night...or parents read to child.
* Parent/Guardian signs the Reading Log (found in the front of the agenda)
* Certificates/prizes awarded to kids for reaching ‘milestones’.
Grade 4 to Grade 8
* Read each night (weekends too…!) for a minimum of 15 minutes (novels, newspapers, textbooks, magazines)
* Parent/Guardian signs the Reading Log (found in the front of agenda)
* Certificates/prizes awarded to kids for reaching ‘milestones’
At St. Catherine of Siena School, we believe that success in reading is crucial to success in all areas of learning. Research confirms that reading consistently every day will increase a child’s ability. We would like our kids reading......every night! Thank you.
Incentive Prizes:

25 Signatures – student receives a special St. Catherine of Siena certificate.

50 Signatures – student receives a gold leaf for their certificate

100 Signatures – student receives a gold leaf for their certificate and a “St. Cat’s Toque/hat”.

150 Signature – student receives a gold leaf for their certificate and a “St Cat’s t-shirt”.

200 Signature – student receives a gold leaf for their certificate and the student’s name is entered in a draw for Blue Jays tickets.
Please remember that signatures are for nights read, not books read! One (1) signature per day can be earned.
Students can earn signatures on weekends and holidays.
