Early June Update
Published on Jun 3, 2019 11:05

Good Monday Morning Everyone....

Time sure does fly. June is here already. Here are some updates and events happening at our school....

* Congratulations to our Battle of the Books team. Our club participated in the Barrie Public Library competition and placed in the top 5 in the city. Another tremendous effort led by our young readers and Mr. Luymes. It's great to see our kids enjoy reading and friendly competition!

* Congratulations to our junior boys' basketball team. They won our area and then advanced to the city semi finals losing to the eventual champs in a close and hard fought game. Thank you to the boys for representing our school so well and to Mr. Piitz for coaching.

* Congratulations to our approximately 30 grade 2 students who received the Sacrament of First Holy Communion on May 26. The kids were well prepared and looked very nice!

* It was fantastic to see so many families here for our kindergarten concert on May 24. The kids sang, danced and were all very well prepared.....the kids were proud and excited to host the event!

* Congratulations to Joe Zerdin who was recently selected as a Trustee for our School Board. Joe has served on our school's CSCC for over a decade and will now serve our 50 schools in his new role.

* This Wednesday, our school will practice our "Severe Weather" drill at 2:30 pm. If you have any questions regarding this drill or any of our other safety plans....please give me a call. Thanks.

* Our two recent social justice initiatives were extremely well supported. "We Walk for Water" raised over $2600 and will provide 104 people in under developed nations with fresh drinking water for life. It is amazing how our families embrace these projects and show care and concern for those in need. Our hot dog day in support of ShareLife raised $600. Thank you for all your support of these two causes.

* Our grade 3 & 6 students successfully wrote the Provincial Assessments these past two weeks. EQAO results will be shared in the fall.

Some upcoming events in June:

* June 5 - JOA here to present to our grade 7 & 8 students their most recent experience on a "mission" trip.
* June 6 - Fr. Tad from Holy Spirit here to visit with each of our grades.
* June 7 - PD Day
* June 8 - Confirmation @ Holy Spirit 5:00 pm. Congratulations to all our kids being confirmed.
* June 11 - Volunteer Appreciation Breakfast 7:30 - 8:30 am
* June 12 - 14 - our grade grads will embark on their grad trip to Camp Kandalore....let's hope for good weather for these kids!
* June 20 - Grade 8 Graduation @ CAT 6:30 - 10:30 pm
* June 25 - Final Report Cards Home
* June 27 - Year End Mass @ Holy Spirit 10:30 am (all welcome)
              - Last Day of the school year.

.......and as a final note to conclude this update, after 39 excellent and wonderful years of service to kids, families and her colleagues, our Vice Principal, Mrs. Ann  Diamond is retiring at the end of June. Ann has been an example for us all in all that she does - our community will miss her tremendously.

In September, Mr. Sheldon Nadon will become our new Vice Principal. Sheldon has been a VP for a few years and is very much looking forward to joining our staff. Please join me in welcoming him to our community.

Let's enjoy the spring.
