Service Animals in Ontario Schools - Public Consultation
Published on Apr 25, 2019 13:12

Good Day Everyone:

On April 4th, 2019 the provincial government launched a public consultation on service animals in schools. The Minister of Education with the support of Bill 48, the Safe and Supportive Classrooms Act, 2019 amends the Education Act so that policies and guidelines respecting service animals in schools can now be established.

The Ministry of Education is now consulting on a draft Policy/Program Memorandum (PPM), School Board Policies on Service Animals until May 4th, 2019.  They encourage all school boards, families and students to contribute feedback on the topic of service animals in schools and classrooms.

The goal of the Ministry is to have a fair, consistent and transparent process for families when making requests for service animals to accompany their children to school.

You may access the draft PPM and survey to provide feedback online by the deadline of May 4th at www.ontario.ca/page/consultation-service-animals-schools.   If you would like to contribute to the consultation process, please access the above link.  Thanks Rich
