A Great Start to our School Year
Published on Sep 10, 2018 10:24

Good Morning Everyone:

I hope this note finds you well. Our first week of school was very smooth. A huge thank you to you all for preparing your kids to return to school ready to go! I would like to thank our school staff for their work to receive our students. Mr. Latour, Mrs. Vibert and Mrs. Shaughnessy worked tremendously hard through the summer weeks to prepare our building for this school year. The place looks great! Mrs. Forgione and Mrs. Gibbons do an amazing job of keeping us all organized and the office running smoothly as we begin another school year.....thank you very much to them both! Our teachers and support staff have spent hours organizing their rooms and lesson plans to begin the year. Much appreciated.

The Board's enrolment projections for St. Catherine of Siena were very accurate and for this reason a major reorganization is NOT needed. We will be making a few adjustments to the grade 1 and 2 classes in the next few days. Parents of impacted students will receive a letter tonight indicating this change. We are establishing a third straight grade 2 class and eliminating the blended 1/2 classroom as our numbers in those two grades mandate this. All other grades will not be impacted by this change. We can  now settle in with the classes we have and enjoy another successful school year.

Some important dates for you in the first month of school:

* Sept. 14 - Terry Fox Assembly....2:15 pm
* Sept. 20 - members of our Social Justice Club will attend WE DAY in Toronto
* Sept. 27 - New School Year Mass 9:30 am in our gym (all families are welcome!)
* Sept. 27 - Terry Fox Run/Walk @ CAT 1:40 pm
* Sept. 28 - Professional Development Day - No classes for students
* Oct. 4 - Meet the Teacher /Pizza Q  (5:00 pm - 7:00 pm) here at the school. Come on out and see your child's class and meet his/her teacher(s) and enjoy a nice community evening. Details to follow.

Some other important information for you:

* Our Catholic School Community Council will be established in early October. Please consider participating. Meeting dates will be shared shortly.

* There was a request of me last year to send parents an overview of the co-curricular events offered in our school so that parents can encourage their children to get involved. This overview will not be exhaustive as some events are thought of as the year unfolds (i.e., some house leagues).  I will send along the overview shortly.

* The Rosary Apostolate program will return to St. Cat's this year. As you may be aware, this program teaches our students how to pray the Rosary and it also nurtures in our kids a great reverence for Mary. The program will begin in October for all classes.

* School Photos will occur here at CAT on Friday, October 19. Class pictures and individuals. Retake day is scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 15. Information will be sent home in the coming weeks.

From our Office Administrators Mrs. Forgione and Mrs. Gibbons:

Safe Arrival

Please notify the school and leave a message before 9:00 a.m. should your child be late and/or absent.  Our voice mail is available 24/7. School phone number is 705-728-7301

 Plan of Care (Medical)

If you have not already done so and your child requires any medications/epi-pens/puffers, please notify our school office admin ASAP, to complete appropriate paperwork.  (Our students’ safety is our first priority)

 Early Pick-Ups

Should there be a change to your child’s end of day routine and dismissal, please send a note to your child’s teacher letting them know when you will pick them up.  In the event you do need to pick up your child early, please do so before last recess, (2:50 p.m.).  In order to maintain uninterrupted end of day routines and procedures in the classrooms, we will not be calling into classrooms after 2:45 p.m.  After 2:45 p.m. your child will be dismissed with the bell at 3:25 p.m.

 Lunch

If you give your child permission to leave school premises at lunch, please be advised that a note should be sent to the teacher/office, and they need to sign out and back in at the office.  In your note please include the student's name and date.  (phone calls will not be accepted).

Thank you for your cooperation with these expectations.

On behalf of our staff, I would like to welcome all our new families to St. Catherine of Siena and welcome back our returning families. 2018-2019 will be a fantastic school year....we're all looking forward to it. Please know that if there is ever a time you'd like to discuss events at our school - whether they be associated solely with your child or as an entire school, please don't hesitate to contact me.

All the best,

Rich Foshay
