Mid November Update
Published on Nov 13, 2017 11:58

Good Monday Morning Everyone.....

Winter weather has arrived in a BIG way.....hopefully everyone has their winter tires on.

Here is our most recent update of events that have passed and events coming.....here goes:

* As a reminder, our school is located in the "Central Weather" zone...meaning if buses are cancelled in the Central Zone...buses will not run at all that day. School is open (unless it is clearly stated that schools are closed - which means the weather is really bad...rarely happens), but buses will not run. Also a reminder, if buses are cancelled on a Wednesday (pizza day) pizza will not be served on that day....it will be served on the next day buses do run. Thanks.

* Our school had a wonderful Remembrance Day Service last Friday. Songs, poems, video, pieces of art and a special guest speaker, Major Corporal Charette made for a poignant 1 hour of reverence for our Canadian military past and present. A huge thank you to Mrs. Biemann and many staff who organized the service. It was an important hour for our students.

* Photo re-take day is Thursday, Nov. 16 in the morning.

* Progress reports will come home this Wednesday, Nov. 15. These are interim reports designed to share how your child has started their year. Please visit "Parentinterview.com" to arrange a time to meet with your child's teachers. Interviews are organized for either Thursday evening (Nov. 16) or all day Friday (Nov. 17). It's really important that you have a good discussion so that home and school are on the same page. Thanks.

* Our school council has partnered with Dominos Pizza for a school fundraiser known as "Raise the Dough" to happen on Wednesday, Nov. 22. Flyers will be sent home later this week advertising in more detail....but here is the basic information:

This is an easy way for you to participate in a School fundraiser from the comfort of your own home!  “Raise the Dough Night for St Catherine of Siena!” is sponsored by Domino’s.  All you have to do is order the “St Catherine of Siena Special” from Domino’s on Wednesday, November 22nd.

The St Catherine of Siena Special consists of Two Medium, Two Topping Pizzas,

Domino’s will donate $5 from every St Catherine of Siena Special ordered on this day back to our School.  Anyone can order this special; neighbors, family, friends, co-workers etc. So mark it on your calendar and spread the word: Order the “St Catherine of Siena Raise the Dough Special” from Domino’s on Wednesday, November 22nd.

* Next Tuesday, Nov. 21 our school board, in conjunction with CPIC (Catholic Parent Group) will offer a series of "wellness" information for raising resilient and healthy kids. Here is an overview of the event:

* Please mark Saturday, December 9 (9 am - 11 am) down on your calendars for our annual "Santa's Breakfast!" A beautiful breakfast of pancakes and pea meal, crafts tables, craft activity for kids, Christmas music and a visit and picture with Santa are all on the agenda! Always a great community event for young and old.

* Many teams, clubs and house leagues are on the go. Intermediate Girls' basketball captured an invitational tournament at St. Joe's last week.....they are a very good basketball team coached by Mr. Cillis and Mrs. Wilson. Our boys' volleyball team, coached by Mr. Piitz is also experiencing some early success. 54 boys in grades 6-8 are playing house league ball three lunch hours a week. Mrs. Diamond continues with her knitting club each Wednesday and our Social Justice and Battle of the Books groups continue to meet.

Thats it for now. We are looking forward to seeing you at interviews later this week.

Have a good week.
