Helping Out Our Community

"We Scare Hunger"
Posted on 10/21/2016

Hunger Bites!! Unfortunately it’s a reality to millions of people in our world including over 9000 adults & children right here in Barrie. Thankfully there are programs and organizations in our city to help fight hunger, including The Barrie Food Bank. For over 30 years, this organization has provided temporary food relief to individuals and families, and has served as a resource to guide people along the road to self sufficiency. They currently give out about 75,000 lbs of food each month! This means they rely heavily on our generous community (especially schools), who just last year alone donated a total of 933,000 lbs of food!!!

So, Sabre Cat families, it’s time once again, to put on our capes and masks, and be HUNGER HEROES!! From Monday, October 17th until Monday, October 31st (BOO!) we will be collecting non-perishable food items for The Barrie Food Bank. Please send food items with your child to school, or stop by the display in our school foyer and place donations in the labelled bins. Our goal this year is to fill 50 boxes of food items. We can do it!

Please consider donating some of these “Most Needed Items”:

  • pancake mix * baby formula * large size diapers (#5/6) * toiletries

  • mayonnaise * canned stews * powdered skim milk * tuna

* box cereals * lunch snacks * canned vegetables * oatmeal

* canned pasta * canned stews * peanut butter & jam * sugar & flour

To celebrate the end of our food drive, the Social Justice team will be hosting a Spooktacular Halloween Dance on Monday, October 31st (Halloween). Students are welcome to wear a costume to school. We all want to have tons of fun so please be sure your costume is appropriate.
