Early October Update
Published on Oct 10, 2017 11:52

Good Morning Everyone:

I hope you all had a nice Thanksgiving with family and friends. We are real lucky to live in Canada and to have so much to be grateful for.

Here are some pieces of information for you and some upcoming events:

* Our Catholic School Community Council (CSCC) was formed on October 2. I'd like to thank the following people who have offered to volunteer to serve our school community:

  • Chair: Joe Zerdin
  • Treasurer: Karen Couto/ Monika Zajkowski
  • Fundraising: Laura Jean Byers
  • Secretary : Becky Pezzimenti
  • Parish Rep: Joe Zerdin

This year, we will be posting the Minutes of our meetings on our school website. Please take a look when you can. (aiming for Wednesday, Oct. 11 as the first date for the minutes to be posted.)
Our next meeting will be held on Nov. 6 at 6:30 pm....all are welcome.

* You will be hearing your children discuss "Safety Drills" over the coming weeks. We will be conducting fire and lockdown drills. Please call me to discuss at any time.

* Many of our teams and clubs are up and running...good luck to our cross country runners who will compete at the area championships this coming Thursday at Sunnidale Park. Great weather for running!

* Monday, Oct. 16 is a regional PD day for JOA feeder schools.....no classes for St. Catherine of Siena students on this day.

* Picture Day for our entire school will be Friday, October 20. Individual and class pictures will be taken. Details to follow.

* The following information is being shared in order to ask your support in helping make our kids safe and to ensure good and clear communication.....

  • Safe Arrival Program – If your child is going to be absent due to illness/appointment, etc. please contact the school @ 705-728-7301, and leave a message on our answering machine at any time prior. Our machine is available 24 hours a day and 7 days a week.
  • Please send a note to your child’s Teacher/Office Admin, should there be any changes in your child’s routine and/or pick-up arrangements.  Unfortunately, phone calls will not be accepted as we can not ensure that the message will be received in time to assist in the changes. Please place the note in your child's agenda. Thank you.
  • Students wishing to leave school property at lunch are required to present a note, dated and signed by the parent to the Office staff.  They will need to sign themselves out in the office and then back in. Arrangements should be made in advance.  Unfortunately, phone calls will not be accepted to make these plans.
  • Just a reminder, if your child is not a bus student, he/she will not be able to ride another student’s bus.
  • If your child needs to be picked up earlier than the 3:25pm dismissal time, please pick up your child before afternoon recess, which is @ 2:50pm.  Calling students down from the classroom between 2:50pm & 3:25pm is very disruptive to end of day classroom routine.

We appreciate your cooperation in the above requests. For example....any one phone call doesn't seem like much to manage, but in a school over 500 kids if 6-8 families call in at 3:00 pm to make alternate arrangements for dismissal, it becomes very difficult to impossible to manage. Thank you.

Have a great week.

Rich
