End of September Update
Published on Sep 27, 2017 14:29

Hello Everyone:

I hope this note finds you all well. Here are a few updates as we move toward October.....

* Our Terry Fox School run went very well today. Our assembly highlighted the life of Terry Fox and his "Marathon of Hope". Even though Terry hasn't been with us for nearly 3 1/2 decades, his passion and vision for beating cancer remains with us. Students today are intrigued by Terry Fox....they are motivated to run for him and all people who are impacted by the disease. Today was a great day at our school. Thank you to Mrs. Yellowage and her social justice team for organizing!

* We celebrate our first Mass of the school year tomorrow (Sept. 28). Mr. MacLeod's grade 8 students have volunteered to lead us. Mass begins in our gymnasium at 9:30 am with Father Mark. All our families are welcome to join us.

* Our annual "Meet the Teacher - Pizza Q" is tomorrow night beginning at 5:00 pm and ending at 7:00 pm. This is an excellent opportunity to meet your child's teacher, see the classroom and enjoy a slice of pizza. I hope to see everyone here.

* Several members of our Social Justice group will be attending "We Day" tomorrow in Toronto....our social justice group is second to none! A huge thank you to Mrs. Yellowage for her efforts in leading our students.

* Friday, Sept. 29 is a Professional Development day....there are no classes for students on that day.

* Next Monday evening, Oct. 2 beginning at 6:30 pm is our first Catholic School Community Council meeting. Elections will take place for various roles. All parents are welcome to attend without any commitment! The CSCC's role is to provide parental views to me on a variety of subjects. The council also has a fundraising component. Events such as Pizza Q, Santa's Breakfast and the Dance-a-thon are also organized jointly with the CSCC. The meetings are typically 75 minutes in length and school processes and news is shared through my monthly report at council.
Please consider joining us.....Monday, Oct. 2 @ 6:30 pm in the library here at school. Thanks.

* We will be engaging our students in the Rosary Apostolate program once again this school year. The program runs once a month in each class. The goals of the program are to create a greater reverence for Mary and to teach the kids how to pray the Rosary. The program culminates in May with a year end celebration. The program is run through the volunteer efforts of parishioneers and sanctioned by the Archdiocese of Toronto. A wonderful experience for our students. It will begin later in October.

I think that's it for now.....I hope to see you tomorrow at either our Mass or Meet the Teacher night.

Thanks

Rich
