Hello Everyone:

I hope that your March Break went as well as you had hoped and you were able to do some things with your kids....

Here is a brief overview of some events here at St. Catherine of Siena along with some upcoming activities:

* Congratulations to our Intermediate Girls' volleyball team who recently won their area playoffs and have qualified for the county championships later this week featuring 16 of the finest teams in Simcoe .  The team has been tremendously successful throughout their season to date.  The team is coached by Mrs. Wilson and Mr. Rankin.

* Congratulations goes out to the intermediate boys' basketball team who recently competed in the Area Division II championships. The team was extremely young and inexperienced this season, however; steadily improved over the course of the season and made it to the finals of their year end tournament. The team was coached by Mr. D'Ulisse and Mr. Foshay.

* Both the junior boys and girls basketball teams have begun their tryouts. Our intermediate co-ed hockey team will be in action on March 23.

* On the afternoon of Friday, March 10 we had another SWEET Day (Super Wicked Epic Electives Time).
Kids in grades 1 - 8 were able to select an activity to participate in. Activities included:
Zumba, board games, Kahoot, outdoor games , card games, nerf war , duct tape craft, cooking, hiking yoga, cartoon illustrations, knitting and hockey. The goal of these days is to help make all our kids feel like they belong....that there is something of interest for them here at our school. We purposely try to organize a wide range of activities that appeal to all our kids. A huge thank you to Mr. Cillis and Mrs. Sponagle for coordinating this event and to all our staff who provided the activities.

* We marked the beginning of Lent with an Ash Wednesday service on March 1. We had a tremendous number of extended family members join us which was great to see. Mr. McCracken's grade 6 students along with Mrs. Sponagle/Mrs. Sellers' JK/SK class led the service. The students did an excellent job with the readings, art work and music. Deacon Ed shared his insights on the meaning of Lent - an opportunity to refocus on what really matters in life.
