Update # 3
Published on Sep 14, 2016 15:12

Hello Everyone:

I hope this note finds you well.

For the first time in many years here at St.Catherine of Siena, we will not need to reorganize classes as a result of inclining or declining enrolment. Our projections in the spring became a reality here in September so classes will remain unchanged. This is a nice way to begin the school year for everyone.

This year we plan to use our website and these e-blasts as our major communication tools to share school wide information. Student agendas will be used by classroom teachers to communicate daily activities and occasionally our office will send paper copy items home; however, the majority of our school's information will be on-line....website and e-blasts. Please encourage people you may know in our community to subscribe to these emails and to check our website regularly.

Key Dates:

* Sept. 22 - Earth Rangers' Presentation 9:55 am Gr.'s k - 6. Presentation will focus on environmental issues and our responsibility as "stewards of our earth."

* Sept. 22 - School Mass 1:45 pm. All our community members are welcome. Mass will be organized and led by Mrs. McPhail and Mrs. Allan's students.

* Sept. 28-29 Scholastic Book Fair

* Sept. 29 - Terry Fox School Run. Whole school. 11:15 am This will be our school's 16th year participating in Terry's Run....our community has raised $14300 during this 15 years. More information will be coming home in the coming days.

* Sept. 29 - Meet the Teacher Evening 5:00 - 7:00 pm. An opportunity to gather as a community, meet your child's teacher and to see the classroom. Pizza, juice, water, snow cones, popcorn all will be for sale. Pre-Order forms will come home this Friday. The youth ministry team from Holy Spirit will have a display and the Scholastic Book Fair will be open in the library.

* Sept. 30 - Professional Development Day. No classes for students.

News from our Office Administrators - Mrs. Forgione and Mrs. Gibbons:

* Medical Plans - If you have received last year's medical plan for your child, please update it ASAP and return it to Mrs. Gibbons by Friday, Sept. 16. If you are unsure as to whether or not your child should have a medical plan at school, please contact the office to discuss. Thank you.

* Safe Arrival - Please phone the school if your child will be absent or late. Thanks.

* Any change to your child's after school routine should be communicated to the teacher in your child's agenda. If the change is unexpected, please ensure that you call the school prior to 3:00 pm as it becomes very hectic after this time as dismissal approaches. We can not guarantee changes can be coordinated by office administration staff if the call comes after 3:00 pm. Thank you for your understanding.

* Daycare Provider List - We are updating our list of providers. Should you wish to be included on this list, please contact the office.

* Food Orders - Once again this year, our school will offer pizza on Wednesdays along with milk (chocolate/white) all week long. This program will begin in October and further details will be sent home later in September.

Reminder

* Cell phone use during the instructional day is prohibited. We understand that many children have devices with them at school for safety reasons, particularly if they are walkers. Please note that devices that are broken or possibly stolen can not be replaced by the school. Students are regularly reminded to keep their devices in a secure place and for them not to be taken out during the instructional day.

Occasionally teachers allow students to use their devices for school related activities (incentive/reward/research) as examples. This use is directly supervised by staff.

* Co-curricular activity at St. Catherine of Siena - many teams will be starting in the coming days. Student Accident Insurance can be purchased by families whose children will be participating. Teachers in the role of coach will be including this insurance information to you at the start of the season.

=====

It's been a very good start to the year. I would encourage you to come out to the Meet the Teacher evening to begin a good and open communication line with your child's teachers. As always, please feel free to contact me or any of our staff to discuss your child's experience at school.

Thanks

Rich Foshay
