Our School Sponsoring a JOA Bursary
Published on Jun 11, 2018 10:44

Good Morning Everyone:

Each year our community hosts "Santa's Breakfast" which is a wonderful way to come together during Advent. This breakfast is not intended as a fundraiser; however, it does generate funds. Traditionally we make a donation to a local community organization. The Green Haven Women's Shelter is an example of a beneficiary.

Our Catholic School Community Council came up with an idea to create a bursary for a JOA student going to a post secondary school - who is also a graduate of St. Catherine of Siena. The value of the bursary is $500 and will come from funds generated from Santa's Breakfast each year. The bursary will be annually awarded at the JOA grad exercise. Plaques have been made to be hung on the wall both at JOA and here at CAT.

As many of you may know, Mr. Joe Zerdin, Chair of our CSCC, is leaving our community this year as his youngest daughter Danielle is graduating. Joe has been a member of our Council for 13 years - many of which as Council Chair. Joe has also served us as Parish Liaison to Holy Spirit for several years. Joe has given selflessly of his time to our community volunteering literally 100's of hours.

Our CSCC put forward a motion to name this new bursary " The Joe Zerdin Bursary". It was passed unanimously.

Here is the criteria for the bursary:

"A St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Elementary School graduate who will be attending a post secondary institution. This student will be in good academic standing, model our Catholic Values and be a community minded individual as evidenced through volunteerism."

We are very pleased to be able to support former St. Cat's students as they make their way to a post secondary institution and to honour Joe for his incredible commitment to Catholic Education and our St. Catherine of Siena Catholic School in particular.

Have a great day.

Rich
