A Spring Update and Easter Wish

Good Morning Everyone:

I hope this note finds each of you well.....

Here are a number of news items and updates as we end the month of March. It's been a very busy time here at St. Cat's.....here they are:

* Our grade 7 & 8 co-ed hockey team recently competed in an 8 team Bob Ashton Memorial hockey tournament coming away with the championship trophy. Tremendous hockey skills our students have! Thank you to Mr. MacLeod and Mrs. Redding for organizing!

* Our girls' volleyball and boys' basketball school teams both had excellent results throughout their seasons. Our girls' intermediate volleyball house league saw approximately 40 girls enjoy games during lunch during the months of January and February.....our junior boys' house league basketball league had over 40 + boys enjoy the sport. Beginning today, 55 girls and boys in grades 2 & 3 will participate in a house league ball hockey league and junior girls and boys school teams have been selected and have begun their seasons....as you can see, our gymnasium is getting good use!!

* Our sewing club and battle of the books clubs are also meeting regularly.

* Our Easter Mass will be celebrated on Thursday, April 5 at 9:30 am. Mrs. Pearson and Mr. Zebruck's students will lead us. Please join us if you can. Mass will be held in our gymnasium.

* Our next Catholic School Community Council meeting will be held on Monday, April 9 at 6:30 pm.

* Our annual "Dance-a-thon" will be held on April 20. Kids always enjoy their time in the gymnasium dancing along with the DJ! This year's theme is "Canadian Icons".

* On April 26, we will be hosting a "Kindergarten Information Evening" at 6:30 pm for families who will have a child in Junior Kindergarten next year. The excitement and enthusiasm these young families bring to our school is contagious....always a special night. If you know of anyone whose child is of school age, please let them know that our Kindergarten Registration is well underway. Thanks.

* The Feast Day of our school's namesake, St. Catherine of Siena, is April 29. To commemorate this occasion, our staff plans to feed all of our students a pasta lunch on April 26 - the feast day falls on the weekend this year. A delicious "pasta al forno" dish along with a fresh bun will be provided for all the kids. We will gather in the gymnasium and have three "sittings" for lunch as we have far too many kids to all eat together. More information will be sent home next week. Should be a great undertaking!

As we are about to enjoy a long Easter weekend with our families, let's reflect on the true meaning of Easter. At the heart of Easter lies the covenant or promise....God's covenant with his people to provide and care for humankind and humankind's response to return God's love and follow God's teachings to care for one another and all of creation.

May you have a wonderful and blessed Easter.
