Merry Christmas
Published on Dec 21, 2017 15:30

Hello Everyone:

I hope this note finds you well.

Here are a few things to share and a couple of reminders:

Our St. Catherine of Siena "Sabre Cats" girls' basketball team completed a remarkable season. Winning at a 95% rate through the regular season the girls also won the St. Joseph's Jaguar's Elementary Girls' Basketball tournament in November.

On Monday, December 18 our team participated in the Simcoe County Championships hosted in Midland. Our team defeated Mountainview P.S.  (Collingwood), Mundy's Bay P. S. (Midland), Marchmont P.S. (Orillia), Forest Hill P.S. (Midhurst) and W.C. Little (Barrie) to capture the Simcoe County championship! This is a tremendous accomplishment as there are approximately 125 teams that compete for this title each year!

Congratulations to all the girls and to coaches Mr. Cillis and Mrs. Wilson. In commenting on the season, Mr. Cillis said, "our girls played with enthusiasm, good sportsmanship and had a lot of fun playing as a team."

Well done champs!!

* Our school attended Mass this morning at Holy Spirit Church. Fr. Mark shared with us the importance of Christmas and the gift of baby Jesus. Many parents attended along with our Trustee Mrs. Hardie to make this Advent celebration that much more meaningful. At the conclusion of Mass, two of our grade 8 students presented Fr. Mark and our Parish's Office Administrator Mrs. Stolarz with a token of our appreciation - a Christmas gift - a St. Catherine of Siena "Once a Sabre Cat - Always a Sabre Cat" t-shirt.

* Our St. Catherine of Siena School Night (Dec. 14)  with the Barrie Colts @ the BMC went very well. Our students sang the national anthem and had a great time cheering the Colts on to victory over the Owen Sound Attack! We sold 134 tickets to the game and filled almost an entire section of the arena!

* Our classes begin following the holidays on Jan. 8, 2018.

On behalf of our staff, I would like to wish each of you a merry Christmas and a happy and healthy new year.
